St. Francis hosts annual foundation dinner
The annual St. Francis Catholic School Foundation dinner was held Friday, Sept. 26, at Arrowwood Lodge in Baxter.
Keynote speaker was Father Mike Schmitz, director of youth and young adult ministry for the Diocese of Duluth as well as chaplain for the Newman Center at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Jenny Boran, a St. Francis School alumna, also spoke about her positive experience at the school. She is the youth minister at St. Benedict's in Duluth.
Courage, Character and Commitment displayed by saints through the ages are an inspiration for students, families and school supporters on how to live their lives. This was the overall theme for the event. The St. Francis School band, which has grown tenfold in the last five years and currently has 34 members, performed.
A $5,000 challenge provided by John Elsenpeter was presented. A record $53,000 was raised. The foundation's overall objective is to provide a firm financial base for the school. The foundation has also played a key role in tuition assistance and technology improvements at the school.
