Omnibus hearing set for Pequot Lakes man facing assault charge
BREEZY POINT—A Pequot Lakes man faces criminal charges for pointing a gun at a driver after she "accidently bumped the tire on his bicycle causing him to fall," court records state.
Ryan Lee Ringstrom, 38, was charged Aug. 29 in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and two felonies involving being a felon in possession of a firearm. An omnibus hearing is scheduled Sept. 19. Omnibus hearings are when attorneys typically go over the evidence, determine probable cause and go over court procedures.
According to the probable cause court document filed against Ringstrom, at 9:54 a.m. Aug. 27 Crow Wing County law enforcement responded to an incident on West Cree Bay Circle in Pelican Township involving a bicycle and a motor vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers met with a person who witnessed a vehicle hit a man on a bicycle. The female driver exited the vehicle and the two engaged in a heated discussion, the complaint stated. The witness separated the driver and bicyclist and they both left the scene heading east.
The witness provided the license plate number for the vehicle. Officers talked with the woman, who admitted to driving the vehicle and being involved in the disturbance with the bicyclist, identified as Ringstrom.
The woman informed officers the incident began the previous night, when Ringstrom broke out the taillights on her vehicle. She planned to see Ringstrom to ask him to pay for the damage. On her way, she saw Ringstrom cycling down the road and turned around to confront him. She accidently bumped the tire on his bicycle causing him to fall, the complaint stated.
When she exited her vehicle and approached Ringstrom, he pulled a handgun out and pointed it at her. It was silver with wood grips and about the size of a pop can. This description matched the 9 mm Sig Sauer P938 officers recovered under a nearby shed.
Ringstrom has a prior felony conviction for a controlled substance crime and is ineligible to possess a firearm.
