Breckenridge man sentenced to nearly six years for sex with girl
MOORHEAD, Minn. — A 30-year-old Breckenridge, Minn., man was sentenced in Clay County District Court on Thursday, Dec. 21, to five years and 10 month in prison for his guilty plea to one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving someone under age 16.
Kevin H. Silvernail initially faced three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The conduct occurred in Moorhead, according to court documents.
The victim told investigators Silvernail smoked meth and talked the victim into trying it.
She said she and Silvernail had sex for the first time after she got a craving for meth and asked him if she could use again.
She said they also had sex on two other occasions.
According to the court documents, the victim told investigators that when she told Silvernail she was pregnant, he told her not to tell people the baby was his because he would get in trouble due to their age difference.
When questioned by investigators, Silvernail initially denied being in a sexual relationship with the victim, but later said he had sex with the victim at least twice.
Two of the three felony counts Silvernail faced have been dismissed.
Silvernail was given credit for having served 496 days.
