LAKEVILLE, Minn. – Gander Outdoors, the reborn version of defunct Gander Mountain, opened its first store in Lakeville near the Twin Cities on Wednesday, Dec. 14 — and it appears the Hermantown store in northeast Minnesota won’t be far behind.

In addition to Lakeville, it was previously said the Forest Lake, Baxter, and Bemidji stores in Minnesota and Fargo in North Dakota would also reopen.

Gander Mountain died in bankruptcy earlier this year but its new owner, Camping World, is reopening about half of the shuttered stores as Gander Outdoors, with many of the same outdoor recreation products.

Video the company posted on Facebook of the Lakeville store displays of fishing, hunting and camping gear as well as bicycles and other outdoor gear.

Gander Outdoors has listed several open positions for jobs at the Hermantown store on its website. A large blue sign across the top of the storefront states that the store is now hiring, and signs on the building’s front doors urge people to apply for jobs, declaring, “New store coming soon!”

Crews have been at work inside the Hermantown location, readying the building for an eventual reopening. On Tuesday afternoon, the store’s interior walls looked new and a crew was busy working on the floor inside the store, which was void of merchandise.

A company official did not immediately return a request to offer a specific date for when the Hermantown store will open.

Camping World Holdings Inc., the nation's largest recreational vehicle seller, acquired Gander Mountain Co. in a bankruptcy auction last spring. The Illinois-based company is headed by Marcus Lemonis, the star of the CNBC show “The Profit.” Lemonis won the auction to acquire Gander Mountain and its Overton's boating business for $35.4 million.

Camping World said in October that that it intended to open 15 to 20 Gander Outdoors stores by the end of March, with another 45 stores later in 2018. Gander Mountain had 160 stores before closing.
