Mayor's Notebook: Santa's Bobbin' into Pequot this weekend

This coming Saturday, Dec. 9, there are "big doings" in Pequot Lakes.

Community Action of Pequot Lakes, with help from businesses and the library, will be sponsoring the sixth Santa's Bobbin' Into Town event.

Starting promptly at 3 p.m. at the Cole Building, Robert the Magician will do a show for children, Santa will visit, Jingles the Elf (along with his assistants) will make balloon animals, plus the ladies of Mid-Minnesota Federal will do face painting. The Cole Building will be hopping!

After his time at the Cole Building, Santa will move to the Jack Pine Center for a free photo-op with children and a chance to chat with each child. Hungry Loon will have a $4 children's meal so families can be fortified before moving over to Trailside Park because starting around 4 p.m., there will be free hayrides, a bonfire, hot chocolate and a bobber hunt for kids.

Finally, starting at 6 p.m., the Light Up the Night Parade will kick off - and you do NOT want to miss this terrific, fun parade. Place yourself along Government Drive (north of Main Street) or Main Street itself, as the parade winds its way east toward the stop sign.

How can you add to this terrific event? My suggestion is to gather some friends/neighbors/family and make a parade unit. This can be walking or riding, it doesn't matter, just light up your group. Even better, it is free to join. Just contact Barb Merritt (218-568-4695) to let her know you're participating.

One incentive is that there are cash prizes for the top three floats - plus the winner has possession of an amazing trophy for the year (secret - it is topped with a Bobblehead Santa).

While you are enjoying Pequot Lakes this holiday season, take a look around and process the time and effort the city and businesses have taken to put our community into the spirit (some with the amazing volunteer help of the Breezy Point North Stars). Visit our businesses and restaurants; thank them for all they have done.

Explore and enjoy your time in Pequot Lakes.
