Scenic byway gazebo kiosk moves to A-Pine
A change recently occurred along the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway.
For about 10 years, the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway's gazebo and familiar sign marked County Road 16 at Highway 371 as the gateway to Paul's scenic byway. Recently, the gazebo kiosk, interpretive panels and road signage all made a Paul Bunyan-sized leap across CR 16 and now reside among the pines at the A-Pine Restaurant.
A-Pine Restaurant owner Rick Beyer donated the site and organized the move. AAA Equipment Center in Pequot Lakes and TNT Heating made the move possible.
This gazebo, built in 2001 by member-volunteers with donated materials, is the only scenic byway gazebo of 13 kiosks, which are all located at key sites along the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway. At the gazebo, two interpretive panels share Paul Bunyan's truth and lore of this historical gateway, and a third panel is a history of the city of Jenkins.
Volunteers are always needed to help stock literature, monitor sites and trails, work the Crosslake campground woodshed and serve on the board.
