Trout recognized with lifetime achievement award
The North Country Trail Association board of directors recently chose Jerry Trout, of Hackensack, to receive its lifetime achievement award.
Trout is a member of the Itasca Moraine Chapter that maintains the North Country Trail, a national scenic trail from near Longville to Itasca State Park.
Trout was a founder of the Itasca Moraine Chapter in Minnesota. He led the effort to build a new trail between Itasca State Park and the Chippewa National Forest, a 45-mile accomplishment between 2001 and 2009. Not only does he participate in hikes and trail work, but he has also contributed for years to chapter management and obtained grants that brought in Minnesota Conservation Corps crews to accomplish a lot of that new trail.
Trout served on the national board of directors until recently.
