Backus: Council manages airport grants, approves road patches until August
The Backus City Council made an amendment to one grant for the municipal airport and approved a planning agreement for runway lighting during its Monday, July 10, meeting.
The council determined that its projected $62,000 cost for installation of fuel tanks at the airport was lower than the actual cost of $65,289. The council decided to amend the grant agreement to apply the 60/40 matching grant to the full price. The fuel tank project is estimated to be completed in July.
The council also signed an agreement for project planning for installation of runway lighting at the airport. The cost of planning will be $28,900. The council has a 90/10 matching grant for the runway project.
The council also agreed to a $5,700 road patching project to maintain roads until the council has an opportunity to finalize plans for a possible larger, city-wide road reconstruction project. The council will discuss financing options with David Drown and Associates at the August council meeting.
The council also approved a liquor license renewal for Willards Saloon.
