Two fundraisers for the Pine River Public Library raised money through the sale of cupcakes and pies.

The two events are organized to gather donations for two different library funds with money from Cupcake Wars going toward kids summer reading programs and pie sales helping to fund construction of a reading porch at the library.

Cupcake Wars in Pine River brought in approximately $200 at the fourth annual competition Saturday, Aug. 6. Among the three teams participating was one team with a "Beauty and the Beast" theme, one with a "Minions" theme and one with a "Wreck-it-Ralph" theme.

Anna Sechser won overall champion for her "Beauty and the Beast" cupcakes. Girl Scout Troop 639 won the taste category for its "Wreck-it Ralph" cupcakes. Girl Scout Troop 566 won most sales for its "Minion" themed cupcakes.

Next year's Cupcake Wars theme will be animals.

Pie on Park Avenue in Pine River marked its second year under the Library Foundation on Friday, Aug. 5.

Over $750 was raised through the sale of approximately 150 slices of pie throughout the day.

"We just did the pies this year and not the boutique sales, so it was pretty good," said library branch manager Muriel Erickson. "Next year we will try selling boutique items also. Last year more people came out because they still thought the church was doing it."
