Andrea Leindecker, 20, of Anchorage, was driving a 1995 Ford Aspire southbound on the Sterling Highway when her car began sliding, crossed the centerline, spun sideways and was struck on the driver’s side at Mile 41.4 by an SUV traveling north, said troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters.

Leindecker, the only occupant of the Ford, died as a result of the crash, medics declared at the scene.

Sheena Sanchez, 28, of Anchorage, was driving the red 2007 Dodge Nitro with three juvenile passengers who were all transported to Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna for minor injuries.

Troopers closed the highway shortly after a trooper initially arrived at the accident at 3:10 p.m. and reopened it about 9:45 p.m.

The Bureau of Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
