Kenai River ice jam loosens after minor road flooding
Large chunks of ice flowing down the Kenai River jammed Wednesday creating a temporary impasse and alerting Kenai Peninsula Borough emergency management officials.
Water backed up rapidly and flowed across Big Eddy Road in two locations reaching a depth of about 18 inches in one location. Ice levels were at or above the banks of the river in Poacher’s Cove and the Big Eddy area, according to a news release from the Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management.
