The first outage began about 6:30 a.m. in the area between the intersection of Kalifornsky Beach Road and the Sterling Highway and stretched to Cannery Road in Kenai.

According to a news release, HEA crews patrolled the line and could not determine an obvious problem and thus re-energized the circuit around 9 a.m. The circuit tripped out about 15 minutes later causing a second outage, which included portions of downtown Soldotna and Funny River Road.

“With daylight conditions improving the ability to patrol the lines, HEA crews discovered a broken insulator on a power pole near the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank,” HEA reported. “Once it was determined that the insulator was the cause of the outages, HEA was able to begin restoring power.”

Power was restored to the Soldotna and Funny River Road area about 9:45 a.m. and to the K-Beach Road area about 10:45 a.m.

If residents are without power, HEA urges them to call the outage reporting hotline at 1-888-8OUTAGE or 1-888-868-8243.
