Sterling Highway crash kills 1

One person died in a two-vehicle collision on the Sterling Highway Monday afternoon.

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said there was one fatality, but Troopers did not know yet know how many people were involved in the crash. Troopers recieved word of the accident at 3:22 p.m., she said.

It looked like one vehicle rear-ended another, she said.

Names were not available. Peters said Troopers have to take care of the scene and notify next of kin.

The accident slowed traffic in front of the Ninilchik General Store, which is at Mile 135 of the Sterling Highway. Traffic was diverted while the highway was closed Monday evening.
