Classic wood boats showcased at Whitefish Chain show

People lined the docks at Moonlite Bay Family Restaurant & Bar in Crosslake on a beautiful Saturday, June 21, to take in the many antique wooden boats docked in the bay for the annual Whitefish Chain Antique & Classic Wood Boat Rendezvous.

Boats came from all over Minnesota, including Nisswa, Plymouth, Alexandria, St. Cloud, Hackensack, Edina, Pine River and more cities. One boat made its way all the way from Arlington, Washington.

This tradition began in 1988, marking 27 years of the show, though it had always been the last weekend of July until this year. The question being asked around was, why so early?

"There were a couple reasons for the change in the date," said Bill Terry, a co-owner of Moonlite Bay and one of the many running the show June 21. "First, we wanted to distance ourselves from the Gull Lake boat show that runs in August, and our sponsors wanted to get an early kick off to the season by having it now."

As is tradition, boat captains voted for all categories to select winners, and spectators voted for their favorite boat as the People's Choice winner. Following are results:
