Leagjeld to present Book Talk, signing at Pequot Lakes Library

Ted Leagjeld

Local resident Ted Leagjeld, former teacher, retired resort owner and lifelong writer, will give a Book Talk and sign books at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Pequot Lakes Community Library.

Leagjeld recently published his fifth book, "Prairie Wind Rural School," and will relate his experiences as an educator starting in a one-room school in Jessie, North Dakota.

Having had only two months of education at Valley City (North Dakota) State University, Leagjeld and fellow students in his field were told by the school's dean that North Dakota had a dire shortage of rural teachers, and would any of them take jobs there? That was a challenge 18-year-old Leagjeld could not pass up.

Thus starts the story chronicled in "Prairie Wind Rural School." Leagjeld has kept journals throughout his life that help keep his memories alive. His book is full of interesting, funny and heartrending anecdotes that affect the reader in many ways.

As he has said, "Teaching is my passion," and his enthusiasm shows in the way he describes his years as an educator.

His talk will end with a question/answer period and light refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to this free program. Leagjeld will have copies of all his books for purchase and for him to sign.
