Test drive the da Vinci surgical robot - May 30
Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center has been offering robotic assisted surgery to its patients for 10 years.
Essentia Health invites the community to learn more about this technology through hands-on experience with the da Vinci Mobile Surgical Robot from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. May 30 at The River Grille in Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Attendees will be able to sit at the surgeon console where the surgeon would sit and control the instruments as if performing an operation. Experts will be on-hand to answer any questions and offer assistance.
The surgical robot is a tool the surgeon can use for minimally invasive surgery that provides greater detail, greater dexterity, and improved visualization.
"We embarked on this technological advancement first and foremost for the benefit it would provide to our patients," says said Dr. Troy Duininck, chief of surgery at Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center, in a news release. "Over the past 10 years we have witnessed improved patient outcomes."
For the patient, benefits can be decreased postoperative pain, less blood loss, shorter lengths of stay, and return to normal function sooner.
