(Headline) Cass County spruce was chosen for state Capitol Christmas tree

A 65-foot high white spruce from the Cass County farm of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Malmo, 9 miles west of Backus, will stand on the Capitol approach in St. Paul as the state Christmas tree this year.

The expansion of Pine River Furniture Mart topped the list of building permits issued in Pine River last month.

An anonymous donor has agreed to contribute $2,000 to improve Pine River's dam site park, Mayor Bunny Anderson reported at the Nov. 14 city council meeting.

Following state water safety recommendations, the city of Pine River will be adding chlorine to its drinking water beginning Monday, Nov. 22.
