People who enjoy getting into nature — birding, fishing, cooking over a campfire, swimming and canoeing — will love what Star Lake Wilderness Camp has to offer.

For many, Star Lake Camp is an unknown jewel of natural wilderness in Crow Wing County. This crown jewel of camping will be open in the summer of 2013 and will offer a variety of programs for children, youth and adults, as well as independent opportunities for groups and individuals at inexpensive rates.

Star Lake Camp also offers much in relation to the arts: painting, music, literature, as well as other disciplines related to nature and nature studies. The camp offers a tremendous resource for creativity in the natural world.

Richard Louv in his books about getting people outdoors often writes about natural experiences that are part of daily life at Star Lake Camp.

Star Lake Wilderness Camp offers opportunities to get away from the pressures and stresses of the modern world. The camp is not a typical, structured camp. There is plenty of room for flexibility, innovation and creativity.

In 2013, the camp begins a new era, a new chapter with emphasis in reaching out to the broader world, to make people more and more aware of the importance of outdoor nature and wilderness experiences.

In the words of Louv, “a place like Star Lake Camp can bring about a real renewal of the human soul ... to get outdoors at night and look up at the night sky and see the stars and listen to the frogs ... to hear the wind blowing in the trees and to feel the gentle evening breeze ... to experience first-hand the beauty and wonder of the natural world ...”

The camp has areas for family camping with two camp pavilions and numerous family camping sites some with water and access to electricity. The camp is a wilderness camp, but does offer access to washrooms, showers and toilet facilities. Recreational vehicles must be “self-contained.”

The camp also has some tents, canoes, paddles, etc., available.
