PR-B still unbeaten in conference

The Pine River-Backus Tigers extended their winning streak and remained undefeated in the Mississippi Conference as they easily handed the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves two losses in a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 6.

The Wolves had eight errors to PR-B to the 12-2 win in the first game.

The Tigers played stellar defense as they only had one error that came in the top of the second inning, and was quickly made up for as the runner was caught stealing and picked off by Steph DeGrote, at catcher, and Megan Felthous, at shortstop. The Tigers only had five hits as Felthous went 2-4 with four RBI and DeGrote went 1-3 and drove in two runs. Miah Hansen doubled, and was the winning pitcher as she struck out six, walked three, and allowed three hits.

The second game was a blowout as the Tigers slaughtered the Wolves 22-0.

Once again errors by the Wolves’ hindered their efforts in the game as they had six errors while the Tigers had none.

Annie Semmler pitched a two-hitter as the Tigers shutout the Wolves, and she also struck out two and walked six. The Wolves only made it to third base twice and stranded runners every inning.

The Tigers had seven hits by seven players: Brandi McAllister, Allison Anderson, Felthous, Alexus Reddick, Steph DeGrote, Semmler, and Taylor Tulenchik.

The Tigers, 10-2 overall, are scheduled to play at Pillager on Friday, May 16, and then open the Subsection 6A playoffs next week.
