Lightning pound St. Mathias 16-1

Jason Roepke tagged a three-run homer and was the winning pitcher for the Nisswa Lightning as they dominated St. Mathias 16-1 in seven innings in Victory League amateur baseball action on Sunday, May 11, in Nisswa.

Tyler Wittwer went 3-3 with a home run, double, and four RBI, while Luke Schumer added a pair of homers and Aaron Jenkins also homered.

Nisswa enjoyed a 15-4 edge in hits.

The Lightning, 2-0 in league play, are scheduled to host a pair of non-league games against the Staples Lumberbats at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 16, and the St. Joseph Saints at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.

Lightning 16, Cuyuna 6

Jason Roepke went 3-for-5 with a double and solo home run to spark the Nisswa Lightning to a 16-6 Victory League season-opening win over the Cuyuna Range Miners in seven innings on Sunday, May 4, in Crosby.

Tyler Wittwer was 2-3 with a double and three RBI for Nisswa, which scored seven runs in the third, and Adam Hardy was 2-4. For the Miners, Dean Lynn was 3-3 with two RBIs, Lance Herbst was 2-3 with a double and Brian Burman 1-4 with a double.

Both teams finished with nine hits. Cuyuna did have six errors while Nisswa made just one.
