The Brainerd Jaycees Run for the Lakes has grown tremendously since the first event in 2008. The event now draws more than 1,500 runners who wind their way through the northwoods scenery. The all-volunteer race is organized from start to finish by Jaycees and carried out with the support of more than 100 members of the community and several local businesses.
All proceeds from Run for the Lakes are donated to various nonprofits. Primary beneficiary this year is lakes area middle school Power Packs, which contain nutritious food products.
