Tigers have open positions in softball
Pine River-Backus softball coach Jason Roepke will be looking for players to step in and replace five seniors who graduated from last year’s team that finished 8-1 in the Upper Mississippi Conference and 12-4 overall.
“We will be inexperienced and have many opportunities for young players to step up and fill the gaps left by last year’s seniors,” said Roepke, who is starting his fifth season as coach. “We do not have a pitcher with any varsity experience. We will need our pitchers to throw strikes, and we need to play solid defense, to be successful. We do have a great group of girls with many talented players.”
Letterwinners are seniors Journee Howard (infield) and Carlee Staples (catcher); and juniors Stephanie DeGrote (catcher), Liz Downie and Megan Felthous (infielders), and Taylor Tulenchik, Olivia Davidson and Shannon Osier (outfielders).
Others who could contribute are sophomores Cheyenne Swenson (catcher), Annie Semmler (outfield), and Ashley Anderson, Allison Anderson, Alexus Reddick and Jenni Holm (infielders); and freshman Miah Hansen (pitcher).
Travis Hoffarth and Shaun Howard are assistant coaches.
