PL girls hope to return to state golf meet

The Pequot Lakes Patriots should be competitive with five of six golfers returning from a squad that finished third in last year’s Class AA state meet.

The Patriots did lose a talented player in graduate Savannah Stone, but they return an experienced lineup with juniors Maggie Heggerston, Sam Olmscheid and Megan Snyder, sophomore Amanda Nies and freshman Alex Stone.

Heggerston, who will be competing for the University of Minnesota women’s golf team after high school, was medalist at last year’s Section 6AA meet.

The Patriots, who outplayed Cold Spring Rocori and St. Cloud Cathedral to win last year’s section title, will be switching to Section 7AA this season.

“With five of six returning golfers, we hope to be competitive in Section 7AA and Mid-State Confernce play,” said head coach Jon Dale, who is assisted by Brenda Helmrichs.

Non-letterwinners are Alex Nelson, Bella Abear, Renee Anick, Hailey Millner, Britta Boozell and Emma Pitzl.
