12 Mount Ski Gull racers reach podium

With some of the season’s coldest temperatures yet, 44 youth turned out to represent Mount Ski Gull’s Alpine Racing Team at the Northland Junior Race Series meet Sunday afternoon, Feb. 9, in Biwabik.

Of those 44, 12 youth took the podium placing in the top three of their respective divisions. Brainerd High School racers Hannah Moen, Emily Aga and Cal Johnson all placed in the top three.

Moen, Nisswa, took first place in the girls’ 16 and older division with a time of 1:14.91. Aga, Nisswa, placed third with 1:35.90. Johnson, Nisswa, took third place honors in the boys’ 16 and older with 1:20.20.

In the girls’ 5 and under, Sierra Larson of Pequot Lakes took first place with 2:37.15. Holden Krantz of East Gull Lake took second place with a time of 2:27.56 in the boys’ 5 and under division.

In the 6-7 girls’, Millie Taylor of Crosslake placed first with 1:35.66. Eli Johnson of Crosslake took third place in the boys’ 6-7 year old bracket in 1:39.82. In the boys’ 8-9 division, Gavin Hoelzel of East Gull Lake was second in 1:40.80; and Emmett Johnson of Crosslake, third, with 1:43.80.

In the girls’ 10-11 division, Maddie Pederson of Crosslake took third place with 1:39.75. Max Darkow of East Gull Lake took third-place honors in the boys’ 12-13 division with a time of 1:28.51.

The next NJRS race is Sunday, Feb. 23, at Mont du Lac. Mount Ski Gull will host the Championship Race on March 2.
