Pequot Lakes 16U volleyball team takes first

The Pequot Lakes 16U volleyball team took first place in the age 17-18 bracket Sunday, Feb. 2, in the Heartland Mid-Winter Classic Tournament, after finishing second it its pool and advancing to the Gold Division. Pool play scores were: 20-18 and 15-20 vs. Carlton Jr-17; 20-11 and 20-12 vs. Heartland Mille Lacs Black; 20-10 and 20-16 vs. Princeton 17-1; and 20-7 and 13-20 vs. Northern Express 17s. In tournament play, Pequot Lakes defeated Viking 18U from North Branch, 25-19 and 25-12, and won the championship against Club Superior 17, 25-13 and 25-23. The team includes, front row from left, Josie Florell, Emma Pitzl, Amanda Nies and Caitlyn Carkhuff; back row from left, Coach Jenna Crawford, Samantha Littman, Morgan Lohmiller, Corina Ruud, Barbara Miller and Laura Squires.
