Steel skate past North Stars

Twin City Steel skated scored the final seven goals in the third period to defeat the Breezy Point North Stars 11-3 in Northern American Tier III junior hockey action on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Russel Barone and Isak Larson scored for the North Stars in the first period.

Breezy Point trailed 4-2 after two periods, but cut the deficit to one goal at 2:09 of the third period on Kyle Whipple’s goal. But the Steel then scored seven goals in a span of just over 15 minutes for a convincing win.

Joonas Huovimen had three goals for Twin City while losing netminder Joey Bergquist stopped 26 shots for the North Stars, who were outshot 37-20.

Breezy Point, 7-30-2 overall, plays at the Minnesota Flying Aces on Friday, Feb.7, and then host Alexandria at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Breezy Point Arena.
