Stone, a Pequot Lakes freshman, finished her two runs with a combined time of 49.45. Finishing third was Ashley Fitterer while Grace McGuire took fifth and Jaden Lindner sixth. McGwire and Lindner are also Pequot Lakes’ students.

“We went in with expectation that the girls could win,” Warrior coach Jim Ruttger said in a Brainerd Dispatch story. “We raced these teams two other times and finished first both times. The depth of the girls is great. Hannah Moen (23rd) went down on her first run or she would have scored higher and Jaden had two good runs for our fourth score.”

Monday’s race was the first time the Brainerd Invitational was held under the lights.

“Skiing under the lights is almost preferred to bright sunlight,” said Ruttger. “Everything jumps out at you. You can see the course well and see the track you want to take.

“It also brought some teams this year that might not have come if they had to take the day off from school. Some schools have a limited number of days they can take off.”

The Warrior boys also finished first at the invitational. Brainerd will compete in the Section 5 meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Afton Alps.
