Lightning girls fall in overtime

The Northern Lakes Lighting girls’ hockey team was edged by Detroit Lakes 4-3 in overtime in a Mid-State Conference game on Monday, Jan. 20.

The Lakers’ Emily Seebold scored at 1:25 of overtime to win the game. Bella Abear had a goal and an assist for Northern Lakes. Goaltender Madison Galligan kicked away 49 shots for the Lightning, while Brittney Knox and Courtney Kittock added goals.

Megan Snyder, Hannah Zimmerman, Mikaela Florey, and Mariah Reed also had assists.

The Lighting, 7-13 overall, was scheduled to face Hutchinson on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and then host Princeton on Thursday, Jan. 23, at Breezy Point Arena.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, Northern Lakes skated past the Panthers as Carly Fyle, Megan Snyder, Erika Monson and Hannah Zimmerman each scored in the Mid-State Conference win.

Park Rapids scored in the opening minutes, but the Lightning responded with the next four goals. Galligan had 17 saves for the Lightning for the victory.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, Northern Lakes was defeated by the St. Cloud Cathedral Icebreakers in a non-conference game. It was the 10th straight win for the Icebreakers, who are 15-1-1.

Galligan registered 27 saves for the Lightning. Allie Rosenkrans and Emily Musielewicz combined to stop 28 shots for Cathedral.
