Lightning fall to Lakers 9-2

The Northern Lakes Lightning boys’ hockey team was defeated by the Detroit Lakes Lakers 9-2 in Mid-State Conference action on Monday, Jan. 20, at Breezy Point Arena.

The Lightning, 1-3 in the conference and 8-8 overall, were scheduled to play Prairie Centre on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and then play at Greenway-Coleraine on Thursday, Jan. 23.

Nick Olson and Nick Blanchette each had a goal and an assist. Goaltender Mitch Stengl recorded 29 saves for the Lightning.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, Travis Kothenbeutel and Ross Chapa each scored twice as the Storm skated past the Lighting in a non-conference game at the Hallet Community Center in Crosby.

Jack Gangl scored the lone goal with an assist from Austin Mesenbrink for the Northern Lakes Lightning.

Jaeger Reed had 20 saves while teammate Mitch Stangel stopped all 12 shots he faced for Lightning. Winning goaltender William Mortenson had 15 saves.

Nick Reed had the only goal for Northern Lakes in a loss to the Panthers in a Mid-State Conference matchup on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Goalie Mitch Stangel turned aside 48 shots for the Lightning, who was outshot 50-10. Connor Kennedy scored both goals for Park Rapids which leads the conference with a 6-0 record.
