PR-B defeats Clearbrook-Gonvick

The Pine River-Backus girls’ basketball team defeated Clearbrook-Gonvick 48-24 in Northwoods Conference action on Monday, Jan. 13, in Clearbrook.

Megan Felthous tallied 23 points to lead PR-B while teammates Megan Porta added 14 points and eight rebounds and Journee Howard tossed in two points, eight rebounds and five steals.

The Bears had won five out of their previous six heading into the game, while the Tigers extended their winning streak to three games.

PR-B, 4-1 in the conference and 7-4 overall, is scheduled to play at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Friday, Jan. 17.

After leading the first half 34-18, PR-B went on to take the win at the Ogilvie Lions on Friday, Jan. 10. Felthous led all scorers with 23 points and Porta contributed a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Tigers shot 33 percent and outrebounded and had more steals than the Lions.

Felthous and Porta led PR-B to a home court win over Nevis in a conference game on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Felthous finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Porta also had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

PR-B led 23-17 at the half, but they came out strong in the second half to easily win. The Tigers had 28 more rebounds and 11 more steals.
