North Stars lose 6th straight

The Breezy Point North Stars suffered their sixth straight defeat when then fell to the host Granite City Lumberjacks 4-2 on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Breezy Point tied it 1-1 in the first period when Chris Hjorth scored on the power play. The North Stars grabbed a 2-1 lead when Blake Newmann tallied on the power play early in the second period.

But the Lumberjacks rallied to tie it 2-2 and then grab the lead on Aidan Verbeke’s goal. Christian Mohs later added an insurance goal for Granite City.

Winning goaltender Austin Wilson made 21 saves while Troy Pierce stopped 31 shots by the Lumberjacks.

The North Stars, 5-23-2 overall, are scheduled to play at Twin City Steel on Friday, Jan. 9, and then host the Steel at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Breezy Point Arena.
