Cambridge-Isanti shuts out Lightning

Winning goaltender Jacob Sibell stopped 18 shots as Cambridge-Isanti shut out the Northern Lakes Lightning boys’ hockey team 3-0 in a non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Hallet Community Center.

Against Cambridge-Isanti, the Lightning fell behind 2-0 in the second period as Jacob Sylvester and Jack Goodmanson scored 15 seconds apart. Sylvester added an insurance goal in the third period for C-I.

Netminder Mitch Stangel stopped 25 shots for Northern Lakes, which has lost three straight games.

Northern Lakes, 7-5 overall, is scheduled to host Detroit Lakes on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and then travel to Moose Lake-Willow River on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Little Falls 5, Lightning 3

On Thursday, Jan. 2, the Little Falls Flyers recorded their second victory of the season after beating the Northern Lakes in a non-conference game in Breezy Point Arena.

Mark Anez scored one goal and three assists and Dane Peterson followed with one goal and two assists for the Flyers, who improve to 2-10-1. Nick Blanchette scored all three goals on the power play for the Lightning. Nick Olson and Nick Reed had assists.

Blanchette gave Northern Lakes a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period, but the Lightning answered with five straight goals. Blanchette added two goals 32 seconds apart in the third period.

Northern Lakes’ goaltender Mitch Stangel saved 24 shots while the Flyers’ Ezra Spandl turned aside 12 shots.
