North Stars fall 11-5
Twin City Steel forward Jace Childs had three goals and seven assists in his team’s 11-5 win over The Breezy Point North Stars in North American Tier III junior hockey action on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Breezy Point Arena.
Childs was part of 10 of the 11 goals scored by Twin City Steel, which scored the final five goals of the game to clinch the win.
Breezy Point, 6-21-2 overall, is off until playing at the Granite City Lumberjacks (St. Cloud) on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Joe Laskero and Mitch Pierson each had unassisted goals to give the North Stars and early 2-0 lead. Twin City cut the deficit to 2-1 going into the second period.
Breezy Point’s Blair Seitz netted a power-play goal early in the middle session, but Steel answered with three straight quick goals in a span of 1:25 to assume a 4-3 lead. The North Stars tied it 4-4 when Nick Manney scored. It was the fifth goal between the teams in a span of 2:37. Twin City assumed a 5-4 lead late in the period.
The Steel scored on the power play just 40 seconds into the third period to make it 6-4. Breezy Point’s Russel Barone tallied on the man advantage to cut the deficit to one goal at 2:14 of the period. But Twin City scored just 10 seconds later to assume an insurmountable 7-5 lead. It was the first of five straight goals for the Steel.
Goaltender Jackson Germaine made 41 saves to earn the victory while losing netminder Joey Bergquist stopped 31 shots.
