Lightning boys fall to Park Rapids

The Northern Lakes Lightning boys’ hockey team was edged by the visiting Park Rapids Panthers 4-2 in a battle for first place in the Mid-State Conference on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Breezy Point Arena.

Nick Reed and Jake Hyytinen scored goals for the Lightning.

Northern Lakes managed just 12 shots on goal while goalie Jaeger Reed stopped 39 of the 43 shots he faced.

The Lightning, 1-1 in the Mid-State and 7-3 overall, is scheduled to host Little Falls at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at Breezy Point Arena.

Lightning 5, W-DC 3

On Tuesday, Dec. 17, Northern Lakes netted five straight goals to start the contest and the Lightning held on for its fourth straight victory against the host Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines in a Mid-State Conference game.

Northern Lakes led 4-0 after the first period as four different players scored. W-DC did rally in the second period by outscoring the host team 2-1. The Wolverines then added a goal in the third period.

Nick Reed, Nick Blanchette, Josh Maucieri and Nick Olson tallied first period goals and Alex Tangen opened the second period with a power-play goal for the Lightning.

Scoring for the Wolverines were Mitchell Johnson, Elias Lehti and Dylan Phillips.

The Lightning outshot the Wolverines 26-17 with goalie Jager Reed making 14 saves for Northern Lakes and Reid Miller 21 for W-DC.
