Stone leads alpine skiers

Alex Stone, a Pequot Lakes sophomore, paced five Brainerd Warrior girls’ alpine skiers who placed in the top 15 as they captured the season-opening Cook County Invitational Friday, Dec. 13, at Lutsen Mountain.

Stone finished ninth in 1:09.18 and was followed by Hannah Moen in 10th, Ashley Fitterer 11th, Grace McGuire 14th and Emily Aga 15th.

“To place five in the top 15 spots in a field of nine teams speaks really well for our girls,” Brainerd coach Jim Ruttger said in a Brainerd Dispatch story. “Not only was this the first meet of the season, it’s the first time we’ve been on snow as a team. We really haven’t had a snow practice yet because of the cold so this was a great result for the girls.”

Brainerd is scheduled to compete at the Wild Mountain Invitational at Taylors Falls at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20.

Girls team scores: 1-Brainerd 200, 2-Duluth Marshall 199, 3-Cook County 192, 4-Duluth East 179, 5-Hermantown 178, 6-Cloquet 151, 7-Virginia 131, 8-Hibbing 82, 9-Duluth Denfeld 80

Individual winner: Mckenzie Bremel (Hermantown) 1:03.72

Brainerd results: 9-Alex Stone 1:09.18, 10-Hannah Moen 1:09.51, 11-Ashley Fitterer 1:09.83, 14-Grace McGuire 1:11:87, 15-Emily Aga 1:12.38, 22-Payge Fitterer 1:15.85, 50-Jaden Lindner 1:51.47, dg-Mackenzie Dondelinger
