Patriots top EGF, fall to Prowlers

The Pequot Lakes Patriots defeated the host East Grand Forks Green Wave 61-55 in non-conference girls’ basketball action on Saturday, Dec. 7, behind 19 points by senior Katie White.

Kayla Miller followed with 15 points and Vanessa Lane scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Patriots, who improved to 1-1 overall and are ranked seventh in Class AA.

Pequot Lakes, which hosted Pierz on Tuesday, Dec. 10, are then scheduled to host Park Rapids in a Mid-State Conference game at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.

“We led 36-21 at the half, and had (the lead) to over 20 points in the second half,” Pequot Lakes coach Jon Dale said, “but we made only seven of 23 free throws the second half, and they cut our lead to five points before we held on.”

On Friday, Dec. 6, Lane scored 17 points as Pequot Lakes opened the season with a loss to the Prowlers in non-conference action.

The Patriots trailed by 42-28 at halftime, and were outscored by 35-29 in the second half.

The Prowlers had three players in double figures, led by Brooke Yaggie’s 24 points.

Lane paced the Patriots with 17 points while Miller had 13, White 10 and Caitie Ryan nine.

“(The Prowlers) are a real good team that’s ranked sixth in Class AAA,” said Coach Dale, who added that TRF’s Brooke Yaggie “is awfully good, but they also had three good guards.”
