Girls hockey splits week 1-1
The Northern Lakes Lightning girls’ hockey team was edged by River Lakes 3-2 in a non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Hallett Community Center in Crosby.
Megan Snyder scored twice while Mariah Reed has two assists against the Stars, who improved to 6-2 overall.
“The first two periods were solid,” said Northern Lakes coach Kristen Harsha, whose team led 2-1 after two periods. “It was a hard-fought game. River Lakes is a good team, and it was nice to see that we can compete with a Class AA team.”
Northern Lakes, 2-3 overall, was scheduled to face Silver Bay on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and then play at Fergus Falls on Friday, Dec. 13, and host Hutchinson at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Hallett Community Center in Crosby.
Lightning 9, LOW-Baudette 0
On Friday, Dec. 6, Bella Abear notched three goals for the Northern Lakes in a shutout win over the Lake of the Woods-Baudette Bears in non-conference action at Breezy Point Arena.
Mikaela Florey followed with two goals, Carly Fyle and Hannah Zimmerman each added a goal and one assist, and Britta Bittner and Sam Gutzman also tallied for the Lightning.
“We have not played Lake of the Woods since I’ve been coaching,” Harsha said. “So it’s nice to face new teams. We started to come alive in the second and third periods. It was exciting to see some of our other lines producing goals.”
