PL now with Brainerd gymnastics

A cooperative agreement was recently approved by the respective school districts that joins Pequot Lakes with the Brainerd Warrior gymnastics program for the 2013-14 season.

“We’re excited to have Pequot Lakes with our program,” said Brainerd Warrior gymnastics head coach Dave Maras. “We’ve had a lot of kids in our youth program over the years from Pequot Lakes. It’s always nice to have kids that can compete in gymnastics.”

Pequot Lakes joins Brainerd and the Staples-Motley school district in the combined Warrior gymnastics team. The move also allows two Pequot Lakes students the opportunity to compete as eighth-graders Hanna Dahlberg and Alexis Cheek join Brainerd’s team.

“They’ve been in our program quite a few years,” Maras said of Dahlberg and Cheek. “Hanna left for a while, but came back (to the program) last spring and has shown remarkable improvement. Alexis and Hanna are both all-around performers (competing in all four events), and we’re excited to have them.”

The Warriors are scheduled to open the season by hosting St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday, Dec. 5. Brainerd will also host two big meets – an eight-team invitational on Saturday, Dec. 21, and the Central Lakes Conference championships on Saturday, Feb. 8.
