Patriots prepare for playoffs

The Pequot Lakes Patriots finished the regular season with a 28-26, 25-14, 25-17 victory over the Crosby-Ironton Rangers in Mid-State Conference volleyball action on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

“It took us a while to get going in the first game, but we won a close game,” said Pequot Lakes coach Kate Dale. “Overall, we did play pretty well.”

The Patriots improved to 4-1 in the conference and 18-7 overall following their seventh win in their past eight matches. Pequot Lakes is seeded fourth and will host No. 5 Frazee in the first round of the South Subsection 8AA playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 24.

“It’s a good time to start,” Dale said of the playoffs. “I think our girls have come together as a team, and they have confidence in each other.”

Dale said the Patriots haven’t faced Frazee this season.

“I don’t know a lot about them,” she said of the Hornets, who are 12-13-1 overall. “Frazee, Wadena-Deer Creek and Breckenridge were all close in the (section) rankings for the fifth seed.”

The Pequot Lakes/Frazee winner advances to the subsection semifinals against the winner between top-seeded Perham and No. 8 Pelican Rapids on Friday, Oct. 25.

C-I dropped to 0-5 in the Mid-State Conference and 2-22 overall.
