Patriots 2nd at tournament

Vanessa Lane and Morgan Lohmiller combined for 55 kills to help the Pequot Lakes Patriots finish second at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle volleyball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Patriots opened the first-year tournament by defeating Deer River 25-17, 26-24; topping the host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 25-19, 25-17; and downing St. Cloud Christian School 25-20, 25-14 in pool play. Pequot Lakes then topped Ogilvie 25-16, 25-22 in the semifinals before losing a close championship match to Annandale 25-21, 21-25, 26-14.

“We had a little different lineup since Katie White missed some of the matches (doing college visits), but Josie Florell did a nice job filling in at setter,” said Pequot Lakes coach Kate Dale said of the sophomore who finished with 26 set assists, “but everyone played well as we reached the championship. We just came up a little short.

“It was a first-year tournament, and it was nice to play some teams that we normally don’t see.”

Pequot Lakes, 17-7 overall, was scheduled to finish the regular season at Crosby-Ironton on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The section 8AA first round is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24.
