North Stars lose twice

The Breezy Point North Stars were defeated by the Alexandria Blizzard 5-1 on Friday, Oct. 11, and the North Iowa Bulls 11-1 on Saturday, Oct. 12 in a pair of junior hockey home games.

The North Stars, 2-7-1 overall, scored first in both games before losing. Jon Plaszcz tallied on the power play for Breezy Point against Alexandria.

But the Blizzard responded with the next five goals to win. Winning goaltender Tanner Ehmore stopped 24 shots while the North Stars’ Joey Bergquist turned aside 41 shots.

On Oct. 12, Chris Hjorth scored early for Breezy Point to make it 1-0. But North Iowa answered with nine goals in the second and third periods to win with a 50-11 edge in shots.

Tim Santoloalo had three goals for the Bulls while North Stars’ netminder Troy Pierce stopped 34 shots in a losing effort.

Breezy Point is scheduled to host Twin City Steel on Friday, Oct. 18, and North Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 19.
