Patriots improve to 12-3 overall

The Pequot Lakes Patriots swept Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 7-0 and Sauk Centre 6-1 at a triangular tennis meet on Monday, Sept. 16, in Long Prairie.

The Patriots, 12-3 overall, are scheduled to finish the Mid-State Conference meet on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Park Rapids. The meet was rain delayed from Saturday, Sept. 14.

Pequot Lakes’ Lauren Bengtson improved to 19-1 on the season as she won both her singles matches at No. 2. Haley Wiebolt is now 18-3 after winning two No. 1 singles matches and Sydney Holt is 19-2 after gaining a pair of victories at No. 3 singles.

"We enjoyed the match with Sauk Centre because it was nice to play someone we had never played before," said Pequot Lakes coach Monica Sergent, who pointed out Haley Wiebolt's key 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-7 win at No. 1 singles against Sauk Centre. "Haley showed great determination to get the win in a three-set tiebreaker against a previously unbeaten player."

The Cardinals improved to 3-0 in the Mid-State Conference with a victory on Thursday, Sept. 12, while the Patriots drop to 2-2 in the conference after the loss on Parents' Night.

Linder (No. 2 singles) and Lauren Bengston (No. 4) earned wins for Pequot Lakes.

“We played very well against Staples-Motley, and just came up a little short,” said Patriots’ Sergent said. “Jaden Lindner looked especially strong at No. 2 singles. If we get the opportunity to play (S-M) at sections, we are hoping for a different outcome.”
