North Stars split on opening weekend

The Breezy Point North Stars junior hockey team split their opening home games – defeating the Minnesota Aces 4-2 on Saturday, Sept. 14, and then falling to the North Iowa Bulls 9-1 on Sunday, Sept. 15.

In the opener against the Aces, Crosby Steen had two power-play goals while teammate Kyle Eberwein added two assists and an empty-net goal. Joey Bergquist, a Pequot Lakes High School graduate, stopped 26 shots to earn the victory.

Against North Iowa, the North Stars were outshot 67-30 as Steen scored the only goal for Breezy Point. Eight different players tallied for the Bulls. Bergquist finished with 41 saves while teammate Troy Price stopped 17 shots in the losing effort.

Breezy Point, 1-1 overall, is scheduled to host Wisconsin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21.
