Nevis 3, PR-B 0
The Tigers were defeated in three games in a conference match against the host Nevis Tigers, who took fourth in the state tournament last year, on Thursday, Sept. 5.
The first game was tied 7-7 when Nevis got a four-point run to take the lead, and they dominated the rest of the game to hand the Tigers a loss 12-25. The second game was three points closer as the Tigers were ahead 10-9, but gave up two 4-point runs in a row and lost 25-15.
The third game was the closest as the Tigers came back from being down 19-15 to tie it 21-21, before giving up yet another four-point run to take the loss 25-21.
“I’m so proud of the way my team has been competing these last few weeks,” said Journee Howard. “I know our first two games have been losses, which is always hard to come back from, but being one of the only teams to break 20 with Nevis is a huge step up from where we have been in the last couple of years. I think that alone really shows what we’re capable of doing.”
Howard finished with seven kills to lead the Tigers.
“The chemistry with all of our girls is amazing,” she said. “When someone is down everyone picks her right back up. I believe that kind of support can make a huge difference in the way anyone plays.
“As far as the rest of the season goes, I’m looking forward to this year more than any I have before. I believe that we’re going to go farther than we have (in recent years).”
