Six letterwinners back for PR-B volleyball team

Six letterwinners return for the Pine River-Backus Tigers coming off a 16-7 overall season, which was the first for Erica Norman as head coach.

“I’m expecting us to be competitive as we have some talented players returning, and younger players stepping up to contribute as well,” Norman explained.

Letterwinners include Journee Howard, Callie Tilbury, Cheryl Carlson, Lainey Kangas, Carlee Staples and Megan Felthous.

Others who could contribute are Lily Wiemann, Megan Porta, Ali Adkins, Kayla Adkinss and Desirae Sonenstahl.

“My coaching staff and I are looking forward to watching our team grow and develop together as the season progresses,” Norman said. “Our team chemistry thus far has been phenomenal. We’re eager to watch where that takes us.”

Last year, PR-B finished 6-1 in the Northland Conference.

The Tigers lost to second-ranked Onamia in five games in the second round of the Subsection 5A playoffs last season. PR-B had defeated Isle 3-0 in the first round of the subsection playoffs.

Assistant coaches for the Tigers this season are Traci King, Shari Kamholz and Kay Sawyer.
