Patriots off to 4-0 start in tennis

The Pequot Lakes Patriots notched two more dual-meet wins as they defeated Lakeville South and Hutchinson by 5-2 scores on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The Patriots are 4-0 since they opened the season on Friday, Aug. 16 by sweeping Pierz a nd Little Falls.

On Saturday, Pequot’s Haley Wiebolt, Sydney Holt and Lauren Bengtson were unbeaten in singles play while Jaden Lindner was 0-2. The Patriots’ No. 3 doubles team of Erika Monson/Sarah Najjar also went 2-0 while the No. 1 pair Ellie Erholtz/Carly Fyle and the No. 2 of Madison Galligan/Alex Nelson were both 1-1.

“I am pleased with the play of the singles players. They are seeing the rewards of the efforts they put in during the offseason,” Patriots’ coach Monica Sergent said in a Brainerd Dispatch story. “The doubles players all have new partners this season and are doing well adapting to each other on the court.”

Pequot Lakes, 4-0 overall, was scheduled to play Big Lake and Foley on the road on Tuesday, Aug. 20. They will then compete at the Park Rapids Quadrangular on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Patriots sweep Pierz, Little Falls

Pequot Lakes won every set in blanking Pierz and Little Falls 7-0 in a season-opening triangular on Friday, Aug. 16.

Winning both singles matches were Wiebolt, Lindner, Holt and Bengtson while doubles winners were Erholtz/Fyle, Galligan/Nelson and Monson/Najjar.
