Aug. 31 Ace Race to support local disc golf league's efforts

A nationwide disc golf event will be in the Brainerd lakes area when a Discraft Ace Race takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Brainerd’s Lum Park.

The event will feature 36 holes of disc golf. However, it’s not a typical “frolf” tournament.

Players will only get one shot on each hole to get a hole-in-one, or “ace.” And, because all of Lum Park’s holes will be shortened for the event, it’s an opportunity for anyone to try the sport, said Matt Perrine, the event’s tournament director.

And the Ace Race will serve as a fundraiser for the local Fly-By Disc Golf League and its leaders’ efforts to enhance and expand the sport of disc golf in the area.

Cost for the Ace Race is $25. Players receive a number of items from Discraft for participating, including two prototype discs that must be used at the event. Unlike other disc golf tournaments, only the new Discraft discs can be used on Aug. 31.
