Nisswa Legion swept by Grand Rapids

The Nisswa American Legion baseball team split with Cloquet on Monday, July 8 - losing the opener 4-3 before rallying to take the nightcap 6-5.

Nisswa was 7-6 overall before playing a scheduled doubleheader against Sauk Rapids on Tuesday, July 9.

In the opener, Nisswa grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with a pair of unearned runs. Cloquet tied it 2-2 in the sixth, but Nisswa grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning on a double by Logan Jones and a single by Nate DeChaine. Cloquet then scored twice in the seventh for the win.

Losing pitcher Dillon Solid pitched the complete game as Nisswa was outhit 8-4.

In the second game, DeChaine belted a three-run homer to give Nisswa a 5-1 lead. Logan McElfesh's RBI hit made it 6-1 before Cloquet rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh to make it close. McElfesh was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run while striking out six. Nisswa had a 7-4 edge in hits.

Grand Rapids sweeps Nisswa

The visiting Nisswa Legion was defeated by Grand Rapids 10-0 and 3-2 on Monday, July 1.

Drew Sannes was 2-3 with an RBI while Conor Gessell finished 2-4 for Nisswa. Both players also doubled.

Nisswa falls to 6-5 overall before it was scheduled to host Cloquet in a doubleheader on Monday, July 8.

In the opener, Grand Rapids enjoyed an 11-4 edge in hits as Logan McElfresh was the losing pitcher. Nisswa did have a 9-7 edge in hits in the nightcap as Solid took the loss.

Crosslake/FL/PL wins 10-9

Connor Chambers went 2-3 with a triple and a pair of RBI as Crosslake/Fifty Lakes/Pequot Lakes American Legion baseball team edged visiting Pillager 10-9 in a nine-inning game on Tuesday, July 2.

Hunter Leslie collected two doubles and added three RBI as Aspen Florey picked up the pitching win for CL-FL-PL, which improved to 4-5 overall

Crosslake-FL-PL was scheduled to play at Aitkin in a doubleheader on Tuesday, July 9.
