PR-B baseball, softball teams honor players

Pine River-Backus baseball and softball teams recently hosted their postseason banquets. Following are details of the award winners for both programs.

Baseball

The PR-B Tigers varsity baseball team had 12 letter winners this year: Anthony Phillipson, Nick Gravdahl, Cole Larson, Zach Semmler, Zach Struss, Triston Rubner, Tyler Burgoyne, Henry Krecklau, Beau Howard, Jared Adkins, Andrew Munsch, and Austin Smith.

Team awards were given as follows: Team Spirit-Andrew Munsch, Mr. Hustle-Henry Krecklau and Zach Struss, Best Batting Average-Jared Adkins, Most Valuable Pitcher-Beau Howard, Rookie of the Year-Zach Struss, and Team MVP-Zach Struss. All Conference players were Triston Rubner and Jared Adkins, with Beau Howard and Zach Struss getting Honorable Mention.

“We had a good season this year, although it was over too quickly,” said head coach Steve Snavely. “We’ll miss our seniors - Beau Howard, Tyler Burgoyne, and Andrew Munsch. But we’re looking forward to next season.”

Softball

The PR-B varsity softball team had 14 letter winners: Tatum Sheley, Autumn Ackerman, Liz Downie, Megan Felthous, Kendra Brasel, Nicole Arends, Stephanie DeGrote, Desirae Sonenstahl, Morgan Demars, Carlee Staples, Journee Howard, Caitlyn Aleckson, Sheryl Carlson, and Olivia Davidson.

Team awards were: Tiger Award-Morgan Demars, Most Improved-Nicole Arends, Batting Average Champ-Morgan Demars, Defensive MVP-Tatum Sheley, Most Valuable Pitcher-Autumn Ackerman, Most Valuable Position Player-Morgan Demars. Named All Conference was Autumn Ackerman, Morgan Demars, Megan Felthous, Journee Howard, and Liz Downie.

Autumn Ackerman was chosen Conference Pitcher of the Year, and Morgan Demars was the conference MVP. Honorable mentions players were Stephanie DeGrote and Tatum Sheley.

“We had a great season even though it was cut short because of the weather,” said head coach Jason Roepke. “It would have been nice to have gone further in the playoffs, but we had a great year. We’ll miss our seniors Tatum Sheley, Autumn Ackerman, Kendra Brasel, Nicole Arends, and Morgan Demars, but we’re looking forward to next season and our returning players.”
