Patriots honor MVPs at track banquet

Vanessa Lane and Tyler Tappe were chosen most valuable for track events while Ellie Erholtz and Travis Jacobson was chosen most valuable for field events at the Pequot Lakes Patriots banquet on Tuesday, June 4.

Lane, a junior, won the 100-meter dash at the Class A state meet on Saturday, June 8, and was also joined Abby Palmer, Chloe Bermel and Rachel Allen on the state championship 4x100 relay.

Tappe, also a junior, finished second in the pole vault at the Class A state meet. His leap of 15 feet, 6 inches tied the Class A state meet record.

Erholtz finished fifth in the shot put event at the Section 6A meet while Jacobson was fifth in the shot put at the Class A state meet.

Other awards for coach Brian Kazmierczak’s girls were Josie Nistler, Patriot Award; Jackie Brine-Doyle, most improved; Caitie Ryan, rookie; and Palmer, Nistler and Lane, team captains.

Other awards for coach Dave Guenther’s boys were Keegan Johnson, most improved; Chris Haman, top rookie; Isaac Allen, Patriot Award. Sean Murray, Nathan McDonald and Mike Ryan were seniors on the team while Tappe, Allen and Ryan were team captains.
